Building systems, coaching arguments, teaching teenagers

I'm a software engineer who left the build pipeline for the classroom. These days I teach special education and coach speech & debate in Salt Lake City — and I still write code when the problem's worth it.

What I do

Special Education

I work with students who learn differently — adapting instruction, clearing barriers, and making sure the system bends to the student instead of the other way around.

Speech & Debate

I coach competitive debate: the research, the case-writing, the thinking on your feet. My teams at Corner Canyon earned a state championship and a runner-up finish.

Software

Before teaching, I built software professionally — most recently at DIRTT, and earlier at Northrop Grumman. I hold a CS degree from the University of Utah and still take on the occasional freelance project.

Codebase or debate case, the work rhymes: take something tangled and make it make sense — to a compiler, to a judge, or to a kid who's been told they can't.
